Collaborative workshops

I love working with Artists and Makers from other disciplines and am excited to bring you this series of collaborative online workshops that combine bookbinding with a range of techniques, including – ecoprinting, sketching, writing, cyanotype and relief printing.

These workshops tend to be a combination of video tutorials and Zoom live sessions which invite you to meet the Artists, ask questions and get creative in the company of others. The live element of these workshops means that there are key dates for you to consider (highlighted in bold) – once the event date has passed these workshops will be taken down but may be repeated later in the year.

With these workshops, there is the option to purchase a materials/tool kit or source your own. International shipping is available.

Most of the links below will take you to partner websites to book your place – these are websites/listings managed by the artist or organisation I am collaborating with.

Letters to the Future: a writing and bookbinding workshop / 23 May 2021

This letter themed workshop run in collaboration with Julie Galante invites you to create a book of memories and letters to the future – a unique personal project or gift for a loved one.

The workshop begins with a Zoom live welcome event and you will then be given access to a series of step-by-step video tutorials. There’s a specially curated letter themed materials/tool kit too.

Eco-print, stitch, and journal – creative workshop inspired by nature / 12 & 26 June, 10 & 31 July

This online workshop weaves together eco-printing, bookbinding and journalling – a collaboration between Elisabeth Viguie-Culshaw, Cass Barron & Julie Galante – three artists who are passionate about making, embracing nature and taking time to create mindfully.

Over the course of six weeks we will go on a creative journey together, sharing techniques, inspiration and ‘creative assignments’ that will result in a unique hand-bound nature journal, featuring your own eco-printed papers and special details that will make it a joy to use.

We understand that it can be difficult knowing where to start with a new blank book, especially one you have made yourself(!). Cue Julie, who, via a series of nature journalling exercises and prompts, will inspire you to start using your journal – filling it with words, images and found objects to reflect the changing seasons and celebrate the nature on your doorstep.

There is something quite special about putting pen to paper in a book of your own making – we can’t wait to share this workshop with you and see your journals spread their wings and take on a life of their own.

This workshop takes place via a series of three Zoom live events – 12 June, 26 June, and 10 July – with accompanying video tutorials that you can work through at your own pace. There is also an optional Sharing Event which takes place on 31 July – an opportunity to come together to share work, ask questions and gather additional journalling inspiration.

Ecoprint, Dye & Stitch: a collaborative workshop

Elisabeth Viguie-Culshaw have moved our popular collaborative Ecoprint and Bookbinding workshop online and we would love you to join us – the next edition takes place in May 2021!

This is a great opportunity to learn the magical (and scientific) process of printing leaves onto paper and fabric using natural tanin in the leaves as well as some other key ingredients to give stunning results, including iron and Sapan Wood. Elisabeth will share her tried and tested techniques with you, allowing you to create your own set of beautiful leaf prints!

I will then show you how to transform a number of your prints into unique and usable books, including a fold book, Japanese Stab sample book and Nature Journal with decorative exposed binding – a great way to display your work and create one-of-a-kind books that make great personal journals, Artists Books and gifts.

*We generally run this workshop twice a year – in the spring (May) and Autumn (October) – sign up to my mailing list for updates.

Journalling the City / 5, 12, 19 , 26 May & 23 June 2021

This new collaborative workshop with Julie Galante invites you to explore place from a variety of creative perspectives – combining visual art, writing, crafting, and bookbinding.

Each week we’ll cover specific creative techniques and apply them to our investigation of the city – we’ll make sketchbooks to record our journey and fill with writing and images prompted by a series of creative assignments.

We’ll work towards combining all these elements into a series of Artists’ Books and a unique keepsake book to store them in, which will marry form and content.

This workshop includes five live sessions (via Zoom), video tutorials and ‘homework assignments’ to complete in between live sessions. You are welcome to join in from any city (or town) in the world.

Rainbow Junk Journal – a printing and bookbinding workshop

I’ve teamed up with fabulous Printmaker and Artist Lou Davis for this collaborative workshop that combines gel plate printing with bookbinding – a celebration of texture, colour and bookbinding that will result in an chunky A5 journal.

In our step-by-step video tutorials we’ll take you through how to make a gel plate from scratch and use it to create eye catching prints, before binding your work together with an exposed cross stitch. There’s lots more too it than that so do click on the link below for more info.

You can work your way through the video tutorials at your own pace and either source the tools/materials yourself or take advantage of our kit options which provide everything you need delivered straight to your door.
