I’m teaming up with Artist Kit Martin for this blue themed workshop, which will share techniques in cyanotype printing and bookbinding.
Via a number of step-by-step videos, Kit will introduce the cyanotype process and guide you in creating a range of magical blue prints onto paper. I will then show you how to make a hardback book with decorative triple chain stitch and envelope insert, plus a bundle of single chain stitch notebooks with the option to incorporate your prints into the cover and/or inside pages.
You can either purchase the workshop and kit together for £70 including postage (currently only available within the UK) – this comes with all the tools and materials you need to make your books, 3 pre-coated A5 sheets for cyanotype printing, plus a clip frame that can be used to expose your prints and display your favourite one afterwards – not forgetting an all important teabag and biscuits to fuel your creativity!
Or you can purchase access to the video tutorials only for £45 and source the tools/materials yourself – this may be a good option if you want to participate but are based outside the UK and/or if you already have moist of the materials and tools to hand (read on for kit list).
Both options come with access to a PDF document that covers where to source materials if you want to make more books and gives advice on how to scale up and down to produce books of different sizes. You will also receive an invite to join our Zoom Live event on 15 July, 6-7.30pm – this will be an opportunity to ask Kit and I any questions, hear about our experience of cyanotype and bookbinding, be inspired and share your creations.
Upon completing this workshop you will have a working understanding of the cyanotype process, 4 finished books, 3 cyanotype prints (two of which can be incorporated into your books), plus a print to display and information on where to source materials if you would like to explore these techniques further.
*Kits will be posted out week commencing 22 June and access to the video tutorials will be available from the 1st July.
